When a tooth is beyond repair with a filling or other dental procedure, we may recommend the use of a crown in order to save the rest of the natural tooth. Crowns are designed to match the natural appearance, bite and feel of the original tooth. With proper care they can last for years without the need for replacement. Crowns may also be used like veneers for purely cosmetic reasons, to improve the overall look of the mouth, smile and teeth.
When one or more teeth are lost, the remaining teeth can shift out of alignment leading to a change in your bite, tooth decay, gum disease or the loss of additional teeth. A bridge is one or more artificial teeth anchored by one or more crowns on each side. Bridges are fabricated in a dental laboratory and may be full metal or porcelain or a combination just like crowns. Another option to a bridge is a dental implant.
